Part 1 - Prologue
It was another long day in Gotham City. For most of the city’s inhabitants, their day was coming to an end. A new era had fallen upon the city. Following the shock announcement that James Gordon was to step down from his role as Commissioner of the GCPD and declare his intentions to become the new mayor of Gotham, he announced a new candidate would be chosen via a public vote to determine a new GCPD Commissioner to lead the city into a new age of peace and prosperity.
The candidates came down to two choices. First was Dorian Blackwood, a detective of 20 years on the force and notoriously corrupt. Known for his underworld and mob connections, he ensured his rise through the GCPD ranks did not go unnoticed. Entitled, arrogant, narcissistic, abusive, and ruthless, Blackwood was routinely despised by his comrades. Known for his womanising habits, intimidation tactics, and money-laundering schemes, he eagerly awaited the end of Gordon’s tenure, planning to make the GCPD into a institution to be feared and respected by law abiding citizens while keeping every criminal rich and free from prosecution.
And then there was Isabella Raven - a young 24 year old detective of only 5 years. Despite her status as a rookie, she quickly took to the GCPD like a duck to water. Known for being a quiet, reclusive, and beautiful young woman with a stubborn, determined, brave, compassionate, and fearless personality, Bella was nevertheless sneered at and looked down upon by many officers who saw her as a scared little girl. Despite these accusations, Bella’s honesty and dedication to her job gradually saw her win the respect and adulation of her peers. To be chosen as one candidate to lead the GCPD was humbling, with many strong recommendations from her fellow officers
With both candidates selected, the citizens of Gotham went to the polls to cast their votes. At first, Blackwood surged into an early lead after less than pleasant press conferences where his personal security intimidated voters into voting for him. Those who did not vote were met with violence. Bella, on the other hand, visited many crime-ridden sections of the city, where families lived in fear and were too scared to venture out at night, and were by rising taxes and debt that forced many to live on the breadline. This support, coupled with peaceful press conferences where she vowed to cut crime, saw more and more people flock to her cause. Including billionaire playboy, Bruce Wayne, and nurse turned burlesque performer, Helena Payne. Gotham’s most eligible bachelor donated a sizeable chunk of money from the Wayne Foundation to help Bella’s campaign.
After weeks of voting, the results were announced. Bella won by a landslide of 105 to 25 after Blackwood’s violent, tyrannical and underhanded tactics were exposed by one of his bodyguards, who had become disillusioned with his boss. On the day that Gordon was sworn in as mayor, Bella gave her first speech in front of City Hall. With renowned vigour and honesty, she pledged to make Gotham safe for decent people and to eliminate the criminal and corrupt element within six months to rapturous applause and deafening cheers.
Her first role as GCPD commissioner saw Bella, Mayor Gordon and District Attorney, Harvey Dent, pass a new law: The Raven Act. Passed unanimously by the city assembly, it bolstered Bella’s promise to impose stricter penalties and give her the tools needed to wipe out organised crime. She began by jailing Blackwood, having complied an extensive list of his crimes and misdemeanours.
Over the next 6 months, as many as 1000 criminals were all locked up inside Blackgate Prison, with Bella tirelessly leading the charge. With the last criminal jailed, organised crime dramatically declined. Away from her new GCPD role, Bella now found herself in a relationship with British mechanic, Ryan Knight. Their mutual attraction began when Knight appeared at several of her press conferences, having voted for her. A brief encounter during her visit to the Burnley district ended with Ryan receiving a small kiss on the cheek from Bella, which began their love for one another. Despite her independence and tragic past, she couldn’t help but fall for the charms of the charismatic Englishman. After several dates and organising a schedule to see one another whenever they could, their relationship became stronger.
And now - it was about to become more adventurous.
